We have been very aware all day that this is 9/11.  There has been a heavy presence of police here in Nice.  My friends Harry and Una are here from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, England and we have been out and about all day.  Below are a few photos from our excursions both yesterday and today.  The food photo is of Socca, the local snack bread made from chickpea flour.  We had to try it. It is very good when hot off the grill, heavy and greasy after it has cooled.  You see a photo of Harry and Una purchasing socca, of Una finding the purple prune/plums from Italy that she loves so much and of us at lunchtime on Cours Saleya after lunching on Moules Frites (mussels with French fries) that were plump and delicious.  The last photo in the gallery is of the Bay of Angels (Baie des Anges) this afternoon as the sunshine set the water into a million sparkles.   It was a gorgeous day here. And once again I must say, we have been mindful of how different our lives have been since 9/11/2001

  1. Greetings to Una and Harry!

When I was in Tunis with Darleen and Edward, I kept seeing bakery goods that tempted me, always the cookies. Darleen would laugh because I could resist but most of them were made with chickpea flour, heavy, dense little stones.

  2. Actually the warm crusty Socca was quite tasty. I am taking a baking class later this Month and the chef has agreed to teach me how to make Socca. It will be a good treat for Miriam!
